Adventures of the Modern Era
December 30, 2015
It is taking me a while to figure out how to do things that many of the younger generations now take for granted. If I tell them that I was born before television was common in households, it's like saying I've come from Mars.
Embracing publicity for this new book has taken me in directions I never would have imagined. Creating this website was a delightful adventure, making the videoclip was terrific fun, but having everything work together to let you know about my work is the challenge.
When my first book, Malarial Fevers was released, I was flying blind as I tried to get the news of the book's existence shared. The time, money and effort I expended had very limited success. Now with the release of my fourth book, I understand technology a bit better and at least know what kind of help to seek.
Ultimately, it's the author who sells the book regardless of who prints it. This era of publishing challenges both well known authors as well as lesser known writers to find ways to share the news about their work. One of my favorite authors told me about the challenges she had with her publisher who used the wrong cityscape for the cover design thinking that it didn't matter. Publicity tours can also be daunting when the publisher sends authors into regions without regard for weather changes that strand their author for days in another city. There is no right way or wrong one of producing a book or selling it; the weight of the task remains with the author.
I can only hope that the 'hot air' I generate with this new book helps the sales to rise like a beautiful balloon.
